Citi Journalistic Excellence Award 2013 launched

to recognize excellence in business reporting in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Citi Hong Kong today launched the fourth Citi Journalistic Excellence Award (CJEA) 2013 to support and advance outstanding financial and business reporting in Hong Kong.

This year marks Hong Kong’s fourth year in participation in this prestigious, career-enhancing global competition. To enter, professional journalists will submit a published article on a financial, business or economic subject in the calendar year of 2012. Articles will be assessed in the first round by an independent panel of senior academics and business leaders in Hong Kong, and eventually by representatives from the prestigious Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, which administers CJEA globally.

The Hong Kong jury for this year includes: Professor Stephen Cheung, Dean of the School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University; The Hon. Bernard Chan, GBS, JP, President of Asia Financial Holdings Limited; Mr. Philip Chen, Managing Director of Hang Lung Properties Limited; Professor Francis Lui, Head and Professor, Department of Economics, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang, GBS, JP, Former Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, HKSAR Government; and Mr. Alvin Mak, Former Head of Markets & Banking, Citi Hong Kong.

“We are again much honoured to receive preeminent support from the city’s top leaders in forming the judge panel for the Hong Kong CJEA 2013 selection. This underpins the shared belief from the academic and business sectors in promoting high-quality journalism and recognizing outstanding financial and business reporting in Hong Kong.  We look forward to another year of high-calibre submissions from the journalists.” said Weber Lo, Citi Country Officer for Hong Kong and Macau.

The Hong Kong winner will join other country winners for an 8-day study tour hosted by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. They will take part in seminars with leading Columbia University faculty members, engage in discussions with senior academics and policy-makers, and visit key financial institutions such as the New York Stock Exchange, Standard & Poor’s, Bloomberg Business News and the Federal Reserve Bank.

Since CJEA’s inception in 1982, more than 300 talented journalists from over 100 media outlets in 37 countries have enhanced their careers through participation in the study seminar.

In addition to the top study tour prize, Citi will also award cash prizes to all three Hong Kong finalists: HK$10,000 for the winner, HK$6,000 for the first runner-up, and HK$4,000 for the second runner-up.

CJEA Hong Kong 2013 is sponsored by Citi Hong Kong and administered by Colombia University Graduate School of Journalism.
