HKJA closely monitors Philippines’s policy towards Hong Kong media

The Hong Kong Journalists Association received confirmation from the Philippine Consulate General of the removal of the ban of nine Hong Kong journalists from entering the country. We appreciate the prompt correction to a serious mistake in classifying journalists as public threat for asking government officials questions.

The Association shall continue to monitor closely the policy of the Aquino administration towards the Hong Kong media, in particular, the press arrangement for the APEC meeting to be held in Philippines next year. The Association calls on Manila to respect press freedom and to ensure that none of the nine journalists nor the media they serve is discriminated against in the meetings to come.
