Joint Statement by Hong Kong Journalists Association and Hong Kong Press Photographers Association: Condemn intentional attacks on cameraman and sabotage of photographic equipment

Hong Kong Journalists Association and Hong Kong Press Photographers Association received reports of attacks on TVB News cameraman and destruction of photographic equipment. At about 10:15 pm last night (November 8), a TVB News cameraman was attacked and injured at the junction of Nathan Road and Argyle Street in Mong Kok. During the incident, several people approached the cameraman and asked whether he was from TVB. After he said he was, they threw his camera and tripod to the ground and smashed them with iron bars. They also attacked the cameraman and hurt his neck and leg, the cameraman needs to be sent to the hospital for treatment. Beside it, HK01 also targeted with company vehicle smashed in Tseung Kwan O.

 

The two associations condemn these targeted attacks on journalists and hinder their work, and asking for an end to interference in reporters’ work and violent acts targeting them.
