Joint Statement by Hong Kong Journalists Association and Hong Kong Press Photographers Association: Condemn police attacking journalists

A Now News reporter and cameraman were hit by a police officer under a flyover with tear gas grenade without warning, when they were covering protests in Tsuen Wan at 3:30 this afternoon, resulting in injuries to the reporter’s left arm.

Hong Kong Journalists Association and Hong Kong Press Photographers Association strongly condemn the police for disregarding the safety of citizens and reporters. For the police not converging, we are furious and appeal the police force to stop frontline police officers’ obstruction, interference or violence against journalists, so that frontline journalists can effectively perform their duty of defending the fourth power.
