Statement on Next Media’s outsourcing plan

The Hong Kong Journalists Association today issued a statement on Next Media’s intended outsourcing plan.  Our responses are as follows:

1.     HKJA has tried to get more information about the outsourcing plan from the management of Next Media but so far we have got no reply from them. HKJA requests the management of Next Media to release more information.

2.     HKJA questions if outsourcing arrangement can safeguard the rights and interests of employees, and we worry whether employees can really choose without pressure from the management with regard to the outsourcing arrangement.

3.     We will continue to pay close attention on the issue and its development. HKJA will offer appropriate assistance to the affected employees at Next Media.

4.     We agree with the Next Media staff union’s position that employees should not accept the outsourcing arrangement at this stage.
